The idea of travel corridors with the UK was first used in the early summer to open up the prospects of a visit to the sun for millions of Vitamin D hungry Brits after three months of lockdown. It was subsequently withdrawn after a more recent spike in cases suggested that Spain was experiencing the start of a second wave of the Covid-19 virus. The result was, of course, that those returning to the UK – and elsewhere – from mainland Spain and the Islands were required to complete arrival forms and to self isolate in quarantine for fourteen days after arrival.
The latest, and perhaps, the best idea from President of the Junta de Andalucia – the Andalusian Regional Assembly – Juanma Moreno, of rapidly testing passengers – with a 99% reliable ‘result in 20 minute’ test – for Covid-19 on arrival at Malaga airport and then again on departure, surely makes the most sense.
This could do much to address the new steps that are required to be taken in order to confront the new normality. If adopted by the UK it could re-open the prospects of both the tourism and property markets and give a much needed boost to the economy of Andalusia.
