Google choses Malaga for its new Cybersecurity HQ.

Gecko Towers

For those considering relocating to Spain’s Costa del Sol, I believe it’s important for us to aid decision making by sharing positive and reaffirming news from the region.

I have long encouraged our friends in the various Mayoral offices or other civic posts along the Costa del Sol, to encourage the big hitters in the worlds of media, technology and commerce consider the Costa del Sol as an obvious location for their activities and for the well-being of their enterprising staff.

Our approach was fueled by a conversation I had a number of years ago with the former Mayor of Nice, in the South of France. He had successfully incentivized Microsoft to move a facility to the region. This was not only a triumph for the City, it created jobs and brought Microsoft staff from all over the world to live an, arguably, better life.

Our real estate colleague, Maarten Glaser has reported in the online Dutch lifestyle website spanjeemigratie.com, that Google is opening a new Cybersecurity HQ in the city of Malaga. This is the culmination of Alphabet Inc’s – Google’s owner – foray into the Spanish market that started in 2012 with its acquisition of Virus Total, a locally based business.

Google’s new premises will be a renovated 2500 m2 office building in Malaga on Paseo de la Farola. It will house the Virus Total staff and feature spaces for training and workshops.

Google, cementing its commitment to the Spanish market, has also announced an intention to invest more than €650m over the next five years in Spanish based projects, one in collaboration with Telefonica.
