MPL: The Rain, The Aftermath.

Gecko Towers

Posting videos, as I have done on my Facebook feed, about my First World Problem of too much rain water in our swimming pool, I have received literally hundreds of useful tips from around the World on how to store excess water for later use in garden irrigation. I will, of course, investigate the various prospect and take remedial steps to do what I can do to contribute to us collectively saving water.

I suspect part of the problem, and why there may be some inertia to exploring such plans, is that simply this morning, ahead of tonight’s full Moon, the sun was shining, the clouds were clear and the largely fallen water, that hadn’t been cleared, has evaporated.

Short memories are quite feasibly the root cause as to why we haven’t solved the problem of water storage. Combined with the cost, the lack of compelling regulation and, apparently a limited number of suppliers who can cost effectively provide these solutions, the result is that we don’t act decisively. We wait until the next downpour and then moan about the lack of domestic water capturing.

The Junta de Andalucia and organs of local government on the Western Costa del Sol have provided us with some publicly funded initiatives that go some way to salving our collective consciences when it comes to our ambivalence to invest in water capture and storage. The Embalse de la Concepcion at Istan is a shining example.

The levels at the Embalse at 10.00 this morning, which I suspect has benefitted substantially from the run-off of water from the land in the last couple of days, recorded, in comparison with yesterday’s capacity of 40.63%, a new total of 41.78% – a 1.15% increase. Which, I believe, to converts to over 710,000,000 litres of fresh stock for this reservoir.
