Gecko Towers:
The thorny questions of legal residency in Spain have provoked much debate.
Spain, which, as ever, is keen to regularize the position of those willing to play their active part in the country, have issued a new opportunity.
The results of the Brexit Vote have impacted on many previously legitimate residents who found themselves out in the cold when the deadline had passed.
Spain has now grasped the nettle and has issued, to commence in May 2025, a series of solutions that will make residency easier for those keen to deal with their past.
Here is an excellent Euro Weekly news piece that addresses this important opportunity https://euroweeklynews.com/2024/11/24/new-rules-make-legal-spanish-residency-easy/
While considering all things relating to Spanish residency, we have received a report that a Bill, before Parliament aimed at ending the Spanish “Golden Visa”, has been stalled by the Spanish Senate.
As we have reported previously see here – Stop Press: “Golden Visas” to cease by 2025 – that the intended date for the cessation of this most attractive Visa was due to be January 2025. However, this most recent turn has resulted in turmoil in the Government’s plans to ditch this Visa.
For many, particularly, non-Europeans, including those from the UK, USA and Canada, the Golden Visa represents a valuable Schengen Visa allowing for multiple entry and exit and without conferring contingent tax liability – provided you are resident in Spain for not more than 183 days.
The main commitment for those applicants we have dealt with, was a property purchase which involves acquiring a property (or properties) for €500,000 plus – aside from any mortgage or other funding.
We have seen it argued that this delay may reopen a window for those seeking to apply for the Golden Visa past the otherwise expiry date of the scheme in January 2025.
If there is interest we have as a member of our trusted and transparent Associates Network, a specialist Visa Abogado experienced in all matters relating to Residency. We also have a number of excellent Real Estate agency members who have access to qualifying properties.
There has been an uptick in applicants for the Golden Visa since the impending withdrawal was announced, perhaps it is worth considering whether this could be for you?
