MPL: Impact on UK visitors of the Brexit Reset deal.

Gecko Towers:

For British expats and home owners in the Marbella region, recent developments in the UK-EU relationship could have a significant impact on your travel and lifestyle. A key agreement between the UK and EU allows for easier travel between the two regions, with UK travellers being able to use more eGates at European airports. Additionally, the return of ‘pet passports’ for British cats and dogs eliminates the need for animal health certificates for every trip.

A new youth experience scheme could also allow young people to work and travel freely in Europe, potentially mirroring existing schemes with countries like Australia and New Zealand. This could be particularly beneficial for families with young adults who want to explore career opportunities in Europe.

The post Brexit Reset agreement also makes the exportation and importation of food and drink easier, which could be good news for home owners in the Marbella region who enjoy importing specialty items from Spain to enjoy in the UK.

While the details are still being finalized, these developments could enhance the appeal of owning a property in the Marbella region, particularly for those who value ease of travel and lifestyle flexibility. Its early days but combine this positive news with the recent news that the Gibraltar-EU agreement is “99%” completed there is likely to be a very positive impact on the Marbella region and its constant attraction to UK expats.

It may well be too soon to speculate but I have the gut feeling that these important steps are following a direction of travel where the given partners realize that the ambitions for the Brexit deal have simply failed to materialize. As a result, will it be that long before we see an easing of the “90 days in 180” rule for UK residents? Or even its substantial repeal? Time will tell but this could be the right catalyst.
