MPL: Rain First Thing, Now Bright Sunshine!

Gecko Towers:

Let’s not be shy, I love both the climate and the weather that visits us here on the Costa del Sol but it can sometimes be a little contrary.

Emerging from the house this morning the weather Apps assured me it was “Light Cloud” but perversely, in reality on the ground, it was moderately heavy rain! By late morning the sun was full-on, its heat evaporating the early morning rainfall. Now the Apps says “Mostly Cloudy” – which couldn’t be further from the truth! It’s easily 21 degrees and sunshine…..

I have been busy over the last couple of days with clients keen to work with our Associates Network at www.marbellapropertylawyers.com so I have been unable to check the progress of the level at the Embalse de la Concepcion.

You’ll recall from my post – MPL: Results of the Recent Rain – which had a staggering number of readers and collateral engagement, that the levels were recorded at 60.39% and 34.75 Hm3.

Well, as of 12.00 today (19.11) these totals at our local reservoir had risen to 62.34% and 35.87 Hm3 – a gain of a further 1.95% and 1.12 Hm3 or 1.1 billion litres of water.

This is over double the quantity of water in the reservoir – on the same date in 2023 – which sat at 15.22 Hm3. Now that’s some gain, and sets us up well for the forthcoming year.

You may be interested to see this Sur in English piece by Chus Heredia that suggests, that sufficient water has recently fallen and is stored at the Embalse de la Concepcion, to provide one million people with water for a year. And this is, of course, before the impact of the eagerly anticipated influx of increased quantities of desalinated water from Marbella’s newly modernized, Planta de Desaladora. https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/malaga-staves-off-drought-droughts-provide-water-20241118080558-nt.html

The run-off should continue for a few days and may be augmented a little by today’s shower. There is the outside prospect of more rain but it seems best to ignore the weather Apps…..Happy to keep you updated!
