Gecko Towers
Welcome to a post Summer reality. The Puerto Banus traffic jams and the crowded favourite bars are a thing of the recent past, they are now gone. While this may give rise to some limited celebration it’s my job to impart some negative news.
You’ll recall that the Junta de Andalucia rulings in June – allowing pool refilling and limited irrigation – were to be in place between June 30th and September 30th 2024.
We have now been advised by the professional body that governs the activities of Urbanisation Administrators, the College of Property Administrators as follows:
“We would like to remind you that the exemption period, during which water use was allowed for purposes such as filling swimming pools or watering gardens with certain limitations, ends on September 30th.
Therefore, starting from October 1st, it will be mandatory to comply with the provisions of Decree-Law 2/2024, dated January 29th, which restricts water use for filling and refilling swimming pools in areas affected by drought. This law modifies Decree 178/2021, which in its Article 5.2.B states that “the use of water resources suitable for human consumption is prohibited for the following purposes: street cleaning, filling private swimming pools, watering gardens, public and private parks, golf courses, washing cars outside of authorized establishments, ornamental fountains without a closed water circuit, public showers, and water jets.”
It is expected that a new meeting of the Drought Committee will take place in the coming days. As soon as we receive any updates, we will update you accordingly, along with any new municipal (Marbella, Estepona etc) ordinances issued by the various local councils.
We are also seeking a clear update on the increased volumes of desalinated water coming from the Marbella Plant as this should start to have a material impact on the overall supply of water to the region.
Please encourage all to join the following Facebook Group – which is where most of our updates feature – to avoid missing vital information:https://www.facebook.com/groups/3658510954433358/?ref=share_group_link
