Marbella – an Entrepreneur’s Paradise.

Gecko Towers

Update 09.04.24: An announcement has been made by the leader of the Socialist Government in Spain, that his government plans to amend or repeal the “Golden Visa” legislation. Currently no timetable for these changes has been suggested and there is opposition to any revision. That said, this discourse, that started in May 2023, may result in some material changes. We will endeavour to keep you up to date with these as we are made aware of them and their precise impact.

“The Pool” in Marbella, has become a fast growing tech hub bringing together those with experience in founding, developing and investing in startups up and young companies in one of the myriad of tech sectors so essential to the world’s economy. It occupies the upper floor of the large El Corte Ingles department store building located near the monument called La Linterna or El Piruli (the Copper Tower) in central Marbella.

During a recent interview at The Pool, (as promoted by marketing guru, Alfredo Bloy Dawson) past Pacaso President, Razor Suleman, who originally accepted a year long posting to Marbella, tells why he and his wife decided to stay, just four months after arrival!

Marbella: It is very nice here, shall we stay?

Reflecting on what Marbella means to him, after a lifetime – literally he started when he was 15 – of creating some hefty tech champions, this Canadian, who has lived all over the East and West coasts of the US, described Marbella as a “paradise” where those who have “won in business” choose to settle as they are also “want to win in life”.

My Biznaga Partners colleague, Chris Armes, himself a veteran of Silicon Valley and its vital Mergers and Acquisitions scene, tells of the small office start-ups in Palo Alto – often known as the “Birthplace of Silicon Valley” – featuring the early iteration’s of likes of Facebook and Google. The energy was infectious and the drive to succeed was palpable. Some did.

Could Marbella become the new European Palo Alto?

Where two worlds meet.

Mr Suleman talked about several initiatives he has in place to promote Marbella and the tech eco-system that he is helping to create and evangelize to the outside world. The aim is to embrace the unfolding opportunities that exist. He commented that many North Americans were often very familiar with St Tropez but few were as well acquainted with Marbella. He wants to change this.

He cited various reasons as to why he felt more of his fellow tech entrepreneurs and associated disciplines from the US would be following his lead. Taking advantage of Spain’s enterprising welcome to the international business community by the new Start Up law, the “Beckham Law”, Healthcare, Schooling and Golden Visa opportunities.

I have written before on this evolving trend North Americans find new lives in Marbella.

Fly United.
