Featured in the recent series on Spain of the “Gordon, Gino and Fred” franchise, and pretty much every international cookery programme on UK and US. TV, the “El Pimpi” restaurant, an icon for more fifty years on the Malaga tapas scene, is expanding by the addition of a new location within Marbella’s, equally iconic, Hotel Puente Romano.
El Pimpi, for years the number one search in Google for “Tapas in Malaga”, is famed for its spotty aesthetic, traditional bodegas design and celebrity chalk-signed wine barrels, the new restaurant is reportedly to open in May 2024.
The hugely successful, Bodegas El Pimpi, was founded in August 1971 by partners Francisco Campos and Pepe Cobos. The catalyst for this latest development comes from the famous son of Malaga and Marbella resident, Antonio Banderas. He is a partner in the business that is bringing El Pimpi to Marbella. His Tercer Acto group already operates five highly successful Malaga restaurants including the Tercer Acto, Doña Inés, La Barra de Doña Inés, Atrezzo and La Pérgola del Mediterráneo.
It seems there are plans to export the El Pimpi brand more widely around the world harnessing the reputation of this Malaga brand, combined with a growing interest in the Andalusian lifestyle and an insatiable international fascination with traditional Spanish tapas.
